Fiber Optic Roots

Founding engineers connect Jordan's first fiber cores while serving with the Royal Jordanian Air Force.

Unitel Fiber Optic Department

Establishment of Unitel Fiber Optic division

2006

2007

First Zain Fiber Optic Project

Unitel Fiber Optic Department was awarded its first major project with Zain (formerly Fastlink) involving:

Establishment of fiber optic links connecting Base Station Controllers (BSCs) across Amman

Deployment covering hundreds of kilometers

Full turnkey implementation including:

Supply of fiber optic materials

Installation

Splicing

Testing

Commissioning

The project duration extended over two years

2007 - 2008

Zain Southern Backbone Expansion

Unitel successfully implemented a major fiber optic backbone project linking:

This project formed a critical telecom backbone connecting southern Jordan.

2009

Nationwide Zain Maintenance Agreement

Unitel was awarded a nationwide fiber optic maintenance agreement covering Zain’s network across Jordan.

This agreement remains active to the present day, with all newly installed links incorporated into the maintenance scope.

2009 - 2010

Mada Jordan Turnkey Project

Unitel executed a major turnkey project for Mada Jordan, including:

Linking Mada Headquarters in Amma

Extending connectivity to Omari Eastern Border

Expanding network toward northern Jordan reaching the Syrian borders Jaber and Ramtha

Following successful implementation, Unitel was awarded full maintenance responsibility for the Mada network

Northern Mada Network Expansion

The department implemented multiple fiber optic links connecting telecom stations across northern Jordan cities, strengthening national connectivity. This included connecting Irbid, JUST, Beit Ras, Jerash, and returning to Amman.

Ayla–Paltel Cross-Border Project

Unitel implemented a major fiber optic connection linking:

Ayla Maintenance: Unitel continues to maintain the network under long-term maintenance agreements.

2013 - 2025

Jordan Armed Forces Network

Suwwan/Unitel implemented fiber optic connectivity projects supporting:

General Headquarters

Amman Directorates

Military units across Jordan

These projects required high operational reliability and strict execution standards.

The project was executed on a turnkey basis, including the supply of all fiber optic materials, all civil works, and commissioning of links

Since April 2014 – Present

FTTH Implementation & Network Expansion

Suwwan established the first Zain FTTH project covering suburban Amman areas.

Testing

Commissioning

Customer activation

Unitel/Suwwan continued to be a primary contractor responsible for implementing FTTH turnkey projects for Zain during 2014–2017, and the company has remained continuously engaged in FTTH rollout and maintenance, achieving more than 12 years of FTTH experience as of 2026.

FTTH Maintenance: Suwwan continues to support nationwide FTTH deployment and maintenance activities for the Zain FTTH network.
